For shaping young minds to build a sustainable future, it is absolutely necessary to bring them in sync with nature. Envisioning such an atmosphere, NUDES has designed a new kind of school to be built in Pune, India.

Titled the ‘Forest’, this innovative design explores the harmony between nature and education. The architectural firm presented the design – based on five main principles of ‘grow’, ‘learn’, ‘reuse’, ‘plant’ and ‘play’ – as part of a competition to construct a new school in Pune.

NUDES’ design, the ‘Forest’ school was the winner of this competition and it aims to construct a green building in the heart of a dense concrete jungle that has developed rapidly in the past decade.

The blueprint features two ‘green’ cylindrical volumes connected through an ‘infinity’ cycle track on the rooftop. The entire built-up construction of the school is defined by a series of uniform protrusions that will be occupied with lush vegetation.

The partial basement houses an all-weather swimming pool and a sky-lit tennis court. The central atrium draws enough light and breathing space to the curved edifice.

Providing an interactive space with fellow students and nature, this green building will help improve the air quality and student health in an otherwise crowded city atmosphere. The proposed design not only promotes a healthy educational environment but motivates the students to preserve and connect with nature as well.
