La Palma’s Continued Volcanic Eruption on Cumbre Vieja Mountain (In Pictures)

Since it erupted on September 19, the active volcano on the Cumbre Vieja mountain range has been spewing lava and smoke hundreds of meters into the air. Nine days after the volcanic eruption on La Palma, the first lava stream entered the ocean, leading to a reaction between the sizzling hot rock and cold seawater that created laze – a toxic plume of steam laced with hydrochloric acid and shards of volcanic glass.

Although it mostly flowed in a sparsely inhabited region after the eruption, it has diverted path and is ravaging every single thing. So far, it has destroyed over 2,500 buildings and displaced thousands of people. Ash has fallen in thick layers, collapsing roofs and burying agricultural lands.
