Ocean plastic conjures up the perceived image of single-use plastic bottles and bags, however, discarded fishing nets contribute to a huge proportion of ocean plastic. An estimated 640,000 tons of fishing nets are discarded annually. In a bid to reduce that number, Samsung Electronics has recycled discarded fishing nets to use in its upcoming Galaxy S22.

The South Korean electronics giant announced that it has developed a new material with repurposed ocean-bound discarded fishing nets that’ll be used to fabricate future Galaxy devices.
